Azura Selous Game Reserve
Please note that the Azura Selous Game Reserve is closed from 01 April to 31 May each year.
The Selous is Africa’s oldest and biggest Game Reserve, and one of its last great wilderness areas. This UNESCO World Heritage Site has long been renowned for having more wild dog, elephant, lion, hippo and buffalo than any other game reserve in the World.
At Azura, we consider ourselves incredibly privileged to be located in a remote part of the Selous, where our very presence is helping to protect and preserve that endangered wildlife for future generations. We look forward to sharing it with you.

Abundant Game Sightings
Azura Selous is the carnivore capital of the Selous, home range for three large prides of lion, and lion cubs usually seen daily. There are six highly territorial leopard in our area, which have become well accustomed to our vehicles. The elephants roam through camp a couple of times a week on average, as we have a breeding herd nearby. We have frequent wild dog sightings that have denned close by to us in the last 2 years and our Hippo sightings and abundant bird life is 100% guaranteed as they inhabit the river where we are located.
The focal point of the camp consists of a formal dining area, the iconic main infinity pool and surrounding relaxation deck, and lounge, all built at alternating levels benefitting from the welcome breezes. Shaded by trees the main areas all have a panoramic view over the river and the African wilderness beyond. The designer ‘boutique-chic’ décor used incorporates famous designers like Ardmore and brings the outside inside. Our villas are part solid and part tented, giving an authentic safari tent feeling without compromising on quality and guest security. All bedrooms have air conditioning, unique in The Selous, and a plunge pool with a view over the Ruaha River.
The Selous region has a warm, temperate climate year round. Afternoon temperatures are usually around 28°C/82°F. Night temperatures drop to about 19°C/66°F. Light rains fall in November and December, never lasting more than an hour. During the hottest time of the year, from December to April, the Selous also has the highest rainfall, which is a welcome relief from the heat. Safaris during this time offer wonderful light for photography and a green lush backdrop. The long dry season follows from June to October.
